Tzaphkiel by DubuGomdori Tzaphkiel by DubuGomdori
I've always liked angels and decided to partake on some
quick angel sketches.
However this sketch turned out to be a full drawing instead of a quick one hour sketch.
This is the angel Tzaphkiel one of the 7 powerful angels.
She's one of the rare female angels, and controls water.
I chose an African feature on her (albeit stylized).
You might be wondering why she's not dark skinned.
I omitted the skin tone completely in case when it is to be colored.
Pencil on comic paper size is approx 10x14
Please enjoy.

Shes my favourite angel that you've drawn for one simple reason, shes black. Not enough black men or women with wings, and I think we all deserve a pair regadless of ethnicity. Don't you?

I totally agree, after a couple of commissions, I'm about to try my hand in drawing a femme character who is distinctively ethnic. I can not wait!

Right up my street stylistically, well done my young friend ^^

Heh, angels have always inspired us, while at the same time, nobody has the same impression of what they look like, how they act or how they dress (if they even do).

And I particularly love this idea, Tzaphkiel does seem to fit in with that slightly more African background, with an element that brings life once a year to most of them.

As far as the drawing of it goes, I'll disagree with the earlier comment about her hand, I've checked; you've got it quite right ^^

My own critique goes to the very centre of the drawing, the pose and the wings draw the eye down into the centre where you have the special affects behind her, but with the amount of complicated necklaces and bangles on the rest of her... you've left a *huge* amount of blank space there.

If I were to add anything it would be minimal, I admit, but I'd need something there to interest the eye more than the legs just as they are. A few strands of decoration trailing out and backwards from her waist, to break up the thighs just a little, like the ones from her head-dress. And some bangles around her ankles just visible because of the foreshortening, but still there to indicate the position of her feet a little better.

Heh, designer in me going overboard methinks ^^

For a doodle that got out of hand though, I can't fault it, I do those all too often and I make loads of mistakes on them because they were never meant to be finished.

Catch you later,
FN! :floating:

I appreciate your critique as always Thay. I agree with what you say about the BG. It would have been a much interesting piece to look at, if there was something breaking the piece up a bit. I'll keep that in my mind for my next piece. Once again thanks for the view. Hope to see your work soon!

You didn't choose the simplicity , as always :D Nice perspective , the right leg is very well done and a nice realistic touch on her face .

I know solu, I really want to choose simplicity and found myself doing the same thing again. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you MisterMinit for your thoughtful critic! If you don't mind, could you please tell me how it looks strange to you, so I may make corrections in future works. Once again I appreciate your comment!

The right hand looks fine. The left hand looks weird because all the fingers are the same size. Also, the thumb stucks out. I suggest that you look at your own hand and try to draw that.
Sorry for my bad english :)
PS. The face is very beautiful.
