Lucifer Before The Fall

Description

Lucifer never seemed so hard to pull out of my head. I have all kinds of cool bad ass ideas about it, but not the angelic holy version. It felt like cracking a walnut with muffed teeth. The only softener was probably the copious amount of saliva coating the walnut. Which can symbolize my frustration. No inspiration coming out man. Pages and pages littered over the floor. Staring into nothingness. Just had to draw something so here is my man lucifer being notably NOT the bad ass of God's crop.

Used smooth (hot pressed) board, the thin cheaper kind. Drew with HB pencil then inked over it. To be more ambitious chose to add some warm and cool grays.
Looked at my meager palette and saw a huge squirt of Burnt Umber dried up like bricks. Not the color I had in mind. Shrugged and made do with the situation.
Small square tip brush added the tones on lucifer.
'Dude this is pretty cool, it's like markers!' I thought, however after that he looked quite bored. So I embarked on adding the BG shade. Squeezed a dollop of neutral tint, (Daler-Rowney watercolor), then slapped it all over the place with a big square tip brush. Strokes were a bit too strong, so after the piece dried took some tissue paper and smudged it out. However being hot pressed the paper would reject any kind of applications. So what did I get? More granules of dried paint lifted off by my tissues! It left a strange burnt umber stain. Which luckily didn't really offset lucifer, so decided to leave it be.
Would I try to do this again? Probably, but do a better job on choosing the paper. If I do uses hot press again, I'd have to change it to a different medium such as acrylic.
Oh well, I tried and through these invaluable failures one can only learn.
Enjoy!
