Abdiel by DubuGomdori Abdiel by DubuGomdori
A decorated general in Heaven's war, Abdiel leads from the front, sounds the charge and always strike's the 1st blow in the heart of the enemy. A true loyalist, she cannot be swayed to the other side. Outside of war, Abdiel is a poet, a nature lover and very eco-friendly. She believes she needs to patrol the byways of this world cracking down on those who litter. Sometimes those encounters get messy. Someone needs to talk to her about cleaning up after herself. Any volunteers?

I just love the pose you have here, however as awesoem as it is, its hard to tell whether shes falling (or floating) or laying down on soemthing. Not sure how to fix it but it still looks good either way.

Yeah, just a somewhat rough sketch I need to show someone I was working with. She's falling but you can't tell.

I didn't no if this was just a sketch or something you were going to finish .As for a comment I like the way she's holding the axe as if it were her most prized weapon to use in battle .

Yeah, just a rough sketch. I really need to practice on more weaponry though.

Nice , the armor reminds me those of the pretorians , the skirt is very similar .But looking to the axe , it seems to be Astaroth's one ^^

Reporting for duty ^^ Anything for a cute, axe-weilding angel like that.

Definitely well done, but I have a niggle that I need to scratch at; her ribbon.

The depiction is wonderful, but the combination of her face turning away and the ribbon snaking across it gives off the impression that she's warding something off, not flying with the grace of a trained warrior. It's just in the way the pose works with it... the... that's it, the ley-lines are misaligned ^^

Most artists call them something different, but I call the lines of 'force' in an image ley-lines. For example, her axe is one, while her forearms are one each, intersecting strongly with the first, and framing the centre of the piece in a pleasing shape. But with the head twisted down, the leyline from her line-of-sight clashes with the rest of the pose. For me, she should be looking completely the other way, up and to her right, with the ribbon swirling around from the opposite direction, leyline pointing up and away from her arms. It would compliment the shape of the arms, and give her a much stronger pose.

Anyway, itch officially scratched, please pardon the long comment ^^

FN!

Thank you again for the great insightful crit Thaylien! Leylines. First time I've heard them (shame on me, hex3). One sec please, I'm pulling up my sleeves, alright let's crack this down.
"...her axe is one, while her forearms are one each, intersecting strongly with the first." Does this mean that her axe's and the left(on her side, so for us is right) arm's direction is parallel to each other?
Ok, this might be wrong but overall this is the way I understood your comment. Due to the direction of the wind blowing, the ribbons should follow the pattern and blow upwards. Her body is twisted in one direction, and for a stronger look, the face should twist upward. Kind of creating an overall X composition. The arms and axe cris crossing off with the upright body.
Phew! I hope I get this right. I would love to learn more about leylines, any pointers on where to study them?

Best wishes.

First, I've got no pointers on where to study them, I just heard about them from a local painter I know in real life, and tried to apply them to my work.

But you've got the gist of it, I think, the head is very expressive depending on where you position it, and for a strong character it needs a strong pose.

I think it'd be easier if I showed you, so here: [link]

I hope you'll forgive me using the piece to explain ^^;
